Here is an email I wrote to them:
Hello, I just bought a Toshiba DVD 16x SD0M1502 drive. I have installed many DVD drives, but this one is giving me some problems. When I play certain movies, such as "Rush Hour," the movie itself will advance tracks on it's own. For example, when I start the movie, after about 3 minutes of playback the movie will advance to chapter 3, and after another 3-4 minutes, the movie advances to chapter 7, all on it's own. Now, when I play "Platoon," it does just the opposite. It will rewind when playing, for example, the movie will play fine for about 20 minutes, then go back to a previous point in the movie about 10 minutes back. Everytime, in both cases, it either advances or goes back to the same point in the movie. I know the movies aren't bad, because I have tested them on different players. When I tried "Gladiator," the movie seemed to play fine.
Here is my setup:
Epox 8k7a (latest bios revision)
athlon 1.33 (no overclock)
IBM 60GXP
I have used Power DVD 2.55, Power DVD 3.0, and WinDVD. The descried problems occur on both versions of power DVD, and in WInDVD, the image quality is poor and laggy.
The dvd drive, is on it's own IDE controller as primary master. DMA is enabled in the device manager, and I have tired it both with "sync data transfer" enabled and disabled. I have tried both Windows 98SE and windows2000 to no avail. Both systems have fresh installs of their respected OS's so I don't think that is the problem.
Is this a known problem? Are there any firmware upgrades,. and could it possibly be a bad drive itself?
A quick response would be greatly appreciated.
THanks!
