Post I have a tad bit of a problem......

Whenever i try and run defrag, it gets about 60% of the way through and then it says that there are errors that need to be repaired and to run scandisk. so i run scandisk, run defrag and it happens again. i have no bad sectors etc, but every time it says that there were errors and that scandisk fixed them.

i have no programs/screensavers running when i do this.

one thing is that sometimes my hard drive makes some really wierd noises when it is doing the defrag. it will make the usual hard drive working noise, but then it will make this noise that i can only relate to being at the dentist, and getting a layer of enamel scraped off with on of those scraping tools. i really doesnt sound good. i just got the drive a couple of months ago, and it is an ibm, so i'm not sure what the huge problem is.

i think i'm gonna try running a scandisk from dos and then defraging from dos. you can do that on a microsoft winme startup disk right?

If it sounds sick, it is sick! Send it back and get another one. Every drive I ever heard a strange noise come from, was ready to die.
