Hehehe, might build a peltier/h20 setup now.. 700w PS :D

Well one of the dell poweredge 4200 servers died and was ripped appart. I managed to get one of the power supplies. Each one is 700watts..... Im pretty sure I can run a small athlon setup and a peltier off of that =) Im gonna get a heater core off of ebay same with an ehiem pump, I'll get all the tubing from lowes or hd, and I have tons of fans... But what about a water block? I have no idea what block is good now. It has to have 1/2" fittings and channels though.. The heatcores I can get have only 3/4" or 1/2". Any suggestions? Oh yeah I dont wanna spend more thank 50$ on a block. Thanks

Haha awesome. Be VERY careful though - the power draw from a Peltier can be and almost always is HUGE and when you power up all units of your case together in one moment from one power supply you *may* run into problems. Just a warning... others here may know more, but it depends on how powerful your peltier is too, of course.

As for waterblocks, Danger Den, Swiftech, are good... there are a lot of others out there, can't think of any off the top of my head though, sorry.

Im fairly confident this PS can handle it. I know how power ratings are all different. Like a 150w peltier will suck 150w constant and a 400w PS only puts out 250w constant (If its a good one). Well this 700w is rated at 450w constant.... hehehhe so 300w constant for a small tbird system will be fine.

Thanks for the tips on the blocks. Think I'll go with a dangerden.

I'd look into the DangerDen Maze3 for a waterblock. They can be had for ~$50. For a radiator I use a heatercore from a 70's Chevy Caprice( $19.99 from Beaverton Auto Parts). I needed some adapters to make it 1/2", some tubing, some hose clamps and some JB Weld (not Quick weld mind you). Total cost is like $30 and it performs on par with just about any other radiator on the market.

a 172w peltier is going to put a huge strain on that power-supply. It'll be interesting to see if it can take it. Keep us updated

Aight I will =) I have to mod the PS though and Im gonna wait till I go home to do that. The PS has the same voltages as an ATX its just the connectors are specific for the server cause its hot swapable. Im gonna basically make my own. Its not gonna be fun at all... But once Im done it will be worth it. I have an extra atx mobo power connector from an old PS I tore apart so Im gonna use that. Not quite sure what Im gonna do for the rest of the connectors. I mean I have extra PS cables but I dont think Im gonna connect much to this PS. I just need the mobo connector, a 4pin for a HD, a 4pin for a CDrom, a 4pin for floppy, and then a +12v and ground for the peltier... Well I figure that out when I get to it =) Oh yeah there is no chance of finding a DC water pump is there?

you want a dc water pump so that your pump will turn on when you boot up right?
don't bother about that... just get a 12v relay from radio shack and mod it into your pump... then the pump will turn on when you boot up
    some links
    overclockers.com article
swiftech also sells a PRS kit that requires no modding... just plug in your pump and you're set
or you can do a mod that the guys over at procooling did

it's at the bottom of the page..
    hope this helps
