The issue is that there aren't really any different MMOs anymore. They are all the same: Pay for content. They aren't even really level grinders anymore. The new formula for MMOs seem to be that you should be able to reach max level in 4 weeks. After that, you start paying for content (on top of the monthly fee).
Don't be surprised if there are NO LEVELS in EverQuest 3 (or whatever SOE cooks up next). Don't be surprised if we get to the point where the game is free and then you have to pay to create your character. Fancy hat? $2. +10 INT bonus? $10. You'll create your character and then pay for it with a credit card when you checkout. You'll be able to have a basic character for $10 and an über toon for $100.
