I didn't know it at the time, but up until Sept 11th AMD was thinking about building a new Fab plant. One of their final destination locations was Fayetteville, AR, where I live/go to school. THAT woulda been awesome. Getting a Fab plant in your own town? Oh, yeah, definately getting an internship there. H3ll, it'd probably be into full swing just after I got my masters. I coulda applied for a full time spot without having to move!

But, they decided to not go ahead with the new plant because of all those reputed losses after the September 11th tragedy.

    My thinking exactly!

Hope they'll manage, though. New materials, new architecture, and they're in for the crown!

    Any guesses on clock?

Calculated from shrink ratio alone yields speeds in the 4Ghz range. VIVA AMD!

with a tiny die, there must be one hell of a heat spreader. won't they just then merge chipset + cpu to get even better results by then?

Hammer will already do that, and they are starting that process at .13u.

Well, isn't Intel supposed to go to .09 in 2003, which should have them somewhere around .06 in 2005.
