I posted this problem earlier but it didnīt work out then, since then iīve discovered alot of things but still canīt figure out the problem. Here we go.
It all started when i bought myself a new mb (AOpen AK73 PRO(A)), processor (AMD k7 Athlon 1.33 Ghz) and hd (IBM ATA-100 7200rpm 40gb). I installed the things but occasionally i didnīt have good enough cpu fan so the processor burned while i was eating my dinnerthe same night, so i go and buy a new one, since the 1.33 is out of stock i buy myself a 1.2 ghz instead. I installed the new things along with a new fan (Coolermaster for 1.4ghz) and all worked fine, after a minor problem i decide to store my old 20gb for later use and install the 40gb new only, so i install win2k and everything works fine, i installed all mb drivers and progs and then all drivers (newest dets for my GeForce 256 DDR Pro 32mb) and everything looked good, so i install my new-bought Max Payne and start playing around with my new kewl fps . Well, after about 5 mins of play my computer hangs up and this little beeb comes out of my headphones, so what, i restart and then go play max payne again, after about the same amount of time (not the same place though) it hangs up again, still with this beeb. Ok, so i decide to try to install my diablo2 +x-pack and use 2D to try that out, after 5-10 mins of play it hangs up again, the same thing, after trying this again and again in quake2, diablo2, max payne and 3dmark2001 (it only hangs up in games or 3dmark, i can hang around on irc or surfing as i wanīt) i decide to format and start over again. After installation the excatly same thing happends, i then try the Creative drivers (cuz my graphic card is Creative) and nothing changes except the beeb is gone, now itīs just the sound of the game. So, i think maybe cooling is the problem, so i take my about 50cm fan (the thing u use to cool yerself down when working hard work at a hot day) and put it aside of my computer (and itīs open at both sides of course) and turn it on, the temperature goes down alot and i start playing, tada ! the problem is gone. Well, this is a temp solution, right ? but i needed something to fix this non-temp. Well, i call my friend and he brings over a TNT2 card and 128mb (100mhz) Ram to replace my 128+64mb (100mhz) and see if it works. We first tried the tnt2, the only thing that changes is that now i hang up anytime, surfing, windows or games, earlyer than before. Well, we take it out again and put my ol' gf ddr in again and try the ram, well, itīs broken, damn, well, then we put my old 128mb in and left the 64 alone. Well, this is a strange thing cuz now i was able to play max payne for a long time before it hangs up! whoa! it maybe is just the memory after all, so i go and buy myself a 256mb (133mhz) ram and out it in without the old one, wow! now i can run 3dmark till itīs done and quake2 for along time before it hangs up, so this obviosly fixes the problem at some point. So, the same night i wenīt to a lan and iīm there still right now, well, here i am, able to play for a long time before it hangs up, BUT the mouse hangs up alot, i canīt understand why (iīm using usb btw) but my mouse freezes after about 10-100 minutes of quake2 or about 5-15 minutes of max payne, it just stops, buttons or motion doesnīt work ?? *** ?? so i get a PS2 mouse from my friend to test it out and now, the mouse doesnīt hang up, the computer does!! the same old problem, the computer hangs up after short play of games ...... I HATE THIS!!Iīm guessing COOLING, i maybe just have to get me some fans n' stuff, after all my huge fan did solve the problem temporarily (well, it still hangs up with it but alot rarely). But i canīt figure out how the memory fixed the problem alot if it was cooling ? and why does the mouse hang up in usb and the computer in ps2 ??? W T F ?? Iīm sorry for a LOOONNNGGGG post but i really wanīt to solve this problem! PLEASE by all means H E L P M E ! Feel free to ask about anything, iīll be watching this forum alot the nest day or two... And BTW... i can run diablo2 almost flawless, it hangs up after about 4 hours of play or more.... really rare... so itīs gott do with my scr card... BTW2.... itīs not the processor cuz when i hang up i restart, go directly into the bios settings and check the cpu and system temperature and the cpu is steady at 40 and system at 30... (not alot iīm told). Do you have all your latest drivers and bios updates. But it does sound like a heat problem. How many case fans do you have? The old lady had a 256 meg strip of kingston ram that went bad on her but ususlly just gives blue screens any time not when playing just starting up gave her some crashes. there is a fan on video card right sounds like video card chip set heats up and crashes. Try putting a floor fan blowing on the video card with side off and play away to see if that is the problem thsi will also cool down ram. Over here in Oklahoma it has been one hot summer even with ac running at 68 to 70 degrees I watch my temps rise during the hot part of the day. Invest in one of those temp mointors that go in the 5 1/4 bay and watch your temps. Do you really have hot summers up there in Iceland?

Well, i think uīre right, it prolly is just a heat problem cuz now iīm home from the lan and it works fine ... itīs much cooler in my room than it was on the lan so it must be the problem... iīm gonna go buy me some fans tomorrow
i only have the ps fan, cpu fan and video card fan + a baybus fan thingie (4 small fans in a nice bay). Thanks anyway, good to know that someone aggree with me, and sorry for that long story, i should have made it shorter.... and about that summer thing, actually, no the temp here on summers ranges from 10(raining) to 30(alot of sun) but the sun is REALLY strong here (u can get sunburn at 15° ), we just get alot of cool wind from sea ![]() ------------------ Elvar Steinn Iceland
