XP fools you into thinking it is faster, It drops you right to desktop then loads the drivers. it is not faster than earlier versions of Win. You still have to wait a bit for the drivers to load and the OS to ready itself for another round of torture from the user.

If your lan card is set to 'obtain address automatically', then XP waits for a while to receive an IP address from a DHCP server before it either gets an address or times out and allows you to go on to other things. Is your lan card connected to anything? If not, you can either disable it or you can assign it a specific (spurious) IP address so that XP doesn't wait for one. For example, assign it 192.168.1.100 with a submask 255.255.255.0, and that should do the trick. (In order to do this, find your lan connection in My Networks, right click it, and look through the various dialog boxes until you find one that talks about IP addresses.)
If you are using the lan card and need to use DHCP, then you are out of luck and just need to wait until your dhcp server assigns the address before you can proceed. But if you're using a dhcp server internal to your lan (e.g. a linkysys router that acts as a dhcp server), you can speed things up by reconfiguring the router to use static internal IP addresses.

Good luck.

Thanks man, this seems to be problem, and i wanted to ask you one more thing, if im going to use a crossover cable to connect my other pc to it 24/7 and share the internet with it, what ip address / mask address should it have?...and the purpose of my lan card is to only play lan games/share internet and files...so i dunno if its for DHCP or not....and i cant find where it asks to specify ip address

OK, go to start, network connections. You should see something like "LAN" there. Right click it and select properties. Go to 'internet protocol (TCP/IP)' and select properties. You should see the entry 'obtain IP address automatically' checked in that dialog box. Uncheck that and put in your spurious IP address.

As far as usinga cross-over connection goes, the easiest way to do that is to use the 'create a new connection' wizard that you will find at start, network connections (over to the left in the box).
