Problem with Linksys Router
I'm trying to get a network setup for some of our neighbors here in our apartment complex. They signed up for verizon DSL and have it working and all when by itself, but since they are four of them, I recommended getting the BEFSR41 linksys for sharing thier connection. So they found one real cheap on ebay. Problem is now that they got the router, is that when it powers up, the Red Diagnostic light never turns off under the WAN port. According to the online manuals, it recommends resetting or updating the firmware of it. The problem with that is that I can't even get access to the LAN of the router.
If I have just one computer into one of the 4 ports of the router, no WAN connection, and power it up, I should still be able to access the linksys configuration of the router. The router sees the port and turns on, but the diagnostic light still never turns off, and therefore I can't access the 192.168.1.1 IP to get into the configuration. Therefore I can't even update the firmware... Any ideas on this one?

I had some problems with my BEFSR41 too. Go to a command line and double check to see if the router IP is indeed the default one (a simple "ipconfig/all" should do the job). I had my router IP change on me before for some reason unknown to me. I would first of all suggest resetting the router. You have to hold in the reset button for 30 seconds I think to restore to default settings...........

Have you tried a hard reset of the router? Hold the reset button for about 15-20 seconds and that should reset the router to factory settings. Or... It may have been "real cheap" for a reason unfortunately.
EDIT: Sorry about that, didn't see this was already suggested.

If the reset doesn't work then the router is bad. This is one reason I won't buy from eScam...errr, I mean eBay. Good luck with the reset.
