I don't have one, but I have seen them out recently too. I'm also kind of in the market for a DVD burner, so if you do get one keep us posted on how you like it

okay OpStar, you have to give us a full report. I have been waiting patiently since early december for the release of the pioneer A07, but waited on getting it because I have read reviews stating that the NEC 2500 burner matches pioneers awesome write quality, and it can be had for $50+ less. So tell us why the pioneer kicks a$$ as I know it will
Plus, who here thinks that a faster burn speed will be out by summers end? or will there just be the implementation of the blue laser instead of speed progression, meaning more room to burn at 8x?

I think the blue laser is a long ways off still, and I also think when it does finally appear it is going to be pretty damn high priced.
12x DVD drives (and even 16x) will be out not too terribly much longer. But, like I have said before, media needs to keep up with the burn speeds of the new drives or it really does the consumer no good to buy a 16x burner if 8x media is still hard to come by...

Well, I am still debating whether or not to get the pioneer or the nec now, or just mooch off my room mate until the summer. I hate having money to spend... it always burns a hole in my pocket (when it comes to computers that is ).

Well I ordered the NEC 2500 Sunday night, so I should have it up and going before the end of the week...at which I'll post my results of how well it burns. I just pray my older DVD player in my HT system will play burnt DVD's..according to some website it will so I'm keeping my fingers crossed

Nice. I have to say, that I have always been a pioneer fan. Especially for dvd burners. I have been wanting the A07 since I read the press release early december. But from what I read about the nec at cdfreaks.com, it has matching write quality (which is why I like pioneer the best, write quality). So I am having issues leaving a known high performer (through experience) and going to a new brand that is selling its product for much cheaper. It seems like its too good to be true (the nec2500 for under $110). Please tell me what you think when you've tested yours out a bit Gar. Thanks

Yeah I checked Fed-Ex, my drive should be here on Friday, so I should be able to test it out on a few DVD's this weekend and see how it goes. I also ordered some Ritek 4x DVD-R's, you can't beat the price and I have heard good things about that media. Hopefully everything will go smoothly and my HT DVD player cooperates
![]() Oh and I'm just happy to see some competition FINALLY with different drives, makes all the prices go down. Remember a couple years back when everyone was shopping for CD burners..the only brand hardcore people got back then was Plextor, no exceptions...thankfully those days are over ![]() Hehe, this makes me think, I remember when I bought my very first CD burner, it was a 8x HP and it cost me roughly $300. Times have come along way since then...hell back then I had a Compaq PC

yeah, i remember when my room mate got his very first cd burner... it was a 2x and it cost about $400. (my roomy and I have been friends since pre-school) I was shocked and amazed that he could make his very own cds in just over an hour!!!! those were the days.

Whats even worse is I remember the days BEFORE CD burners, when I would actually go out and buy a CD for $20.
Oh and I just download songs for evaluation purposes only, if I like the song I go out and buy the CD
