PSU goin bad???
Ok, everytime I start up my machine, it goes to the XP loading screen and does its thing. Then, when it should pop up the desktop, the moniter all of a sudden goes into the "power saving will now turn of the moniter" thing. It shuts off for about 5 seconds and then turns back on and shows a black screen. A couple secs later, my mouse pops in the middle of the screen, and the desktop follows that. Well, I could live with that, but today I was playing a game and the moniter decides to shut itself off again right in the middle of the game. I waited a bit, but no luck this time...I had to reboot the system with the reset button. CTRL+ALT+DEL didnt restart it, and all sounds stopped, so I assume my system just locked up. Fans in the PC were still going like always. The PSU I have is 450 watts, but it is just one that came with my case that I bought for my PC, so it prolly isnt all that great.
System specs: AthlonXP 2700+ (2.13 ghz) 1024mb kingston ram radeon 9700 pro 40gb 5200rpm western digital hd couple of optical drives attached and a couple of fans oh, Asus A7V8NX-X mobo It hasnt always done this, but it has been going on for awile. It does the stuff during startup every single time, but as far as doing it during games, ive only had it happen a couple of times. Any help is greatly appreciated!! |

Monitor Powering Off
Have you tried disabling all of the powersave/sleep modes in Windows and in your bios and see what happens?

That happened to me when my video cad went bad. Might want to check by trying another card if you have one.

I would try both a NEW PSU and a NEW video card in the machine if you have spare parts.
Looks like we have another computer part funeral on our hands.
