Oblivion HDR vs. Bloom + aa 4x
These first four are HDR only.
![]() and now with bloom and 4x aa notice the FPS. ![]() I liked HDR better it looked more surealistic while Bloom + aa looked washed out. I didn't notice any preformance diferences but the game is running much smoother for me now that I turn off other appz and 2nd montior and rebooted first. |

The game chugs too bad on my system with any AA on. I just use bloom and no aa at 1680x1050. Kinda wish my moniter was smaller for this game haha.

You don't like the HDR or does HDR chug it out even worse? I'm not sure which is harder on system but I do like HDR better than Bloom + AA 4x.

It is very playable on my rig and I don't even have the CPU overclocked anymore. The only thing I cranked up was the resolution, to 1280x1024, I got HDR on and I may have fiddled with some other things but I can't remember what they are. So many options. In fact, when I go through a door there is a screen that comes up while the next room is loading, but with my rig the room loads so fast I can't even read what it says. I only know that it has to do with OBlivion lore of some sort. edit: HEy I just looked at our computers and I got the crappiest one.

Having to run 1680x1050 really kills my performance. To get decent fps (30-45 avg outside) I only use bloom. With HDR it dips down to 25-35 fps, which is not very smooth IMO. AA seems to hurt more than HDR in this game. I like 4xaa+bloom more than HDR. I can't stand jaggies. I play without either though

After seeing this thread I turned off HDR and just left it at Bloom with no AA. My frames skyrocketed and haven't had a hitch yet. Looks the same to me, but I don't know what HDR is.

Bloom worked out really good for me when I was fighting 2 casting imps at the same time..no chugga chugga. With HDR on I fought 3 bandits and one spellcaster and it would pop when I cast and the spellcaster cast....not so with Bloom. I'm sure I'll be back and forth with it until I settle into something I like.

I prefere playing with bloom + 4xAA. HDR is not that much better at the moment than bloom. My opinion is that playing without AA is going back in time. It just doesn't look nice. I refuse to play any game without AA.
My rig: X2-4200+ / 2GB Kingston HyperX / 1900XTX / 2 x 250GB Western Digital Raid0 / Maxtor 200GB / Maxtor 250GB / Tagan 530Watt / Asus A8n-Sli I play Oblivion with every setting maxed out, except some shadow settings at medium. 1280x1024+bloom+4xAA Greetz Last edited by The-X; 03-29-2006 at 10:07 AM. |

I don't know I think the HDR looks pretty dang good in oblivion. I don't think those pictures do it justice. I think I notice it most inside houses and caves where there are torches and lights and you can really tell a more dramatic difference. And when things are in motion of course that changes things as well how things flicker and what not seems more alive with it on.
I turn it off and my frames go up but the game looks so much more lifeless and a lot more like morrowind.
