Hybrid Hard Drives??
Ok...was doing research on hard drives and such to make a faq page for my work, and i stumble across this
It sounds like an awesome idea, but why haven't we seen any of those drives yet? Who knows though, it might be one of those things that look great on paper but in reality it's useless... edit: did a little more research. wow, extends battery life on laptops by 25% eh? 1gb cache? thats insane. too bad i can't buy one for my gf's laptop right now. not listed at newegg at all but supposedly they were released 2 months ago

SCSI based storage systems have had a large cache for a long time. The difference is that the cache is standard ram with battery backup. In case of a power or system failure the controller can flush the cache to disk with no loss of data. The idea is not new, just the implementation. Mainframes have used ram based storage for more than 20 years in lieu of rotating media.
