Post Do we really need all these Gadgets?

In honor of this new forum, I propose this: Why do we need all these gadgets? I mean, we have computers small as watches that are more powerful than computers 5 years ago. We have Wireless Cable!?! Why do we need a toothbrush that acts as radio? Do I need to listen to the sounds of the 80's while I fight plaque? There are so many worthless gadgets out there. So I have to ask WHY?

Because technology is fun, and there will always be people willing to break the bank for the latest and greatest. It's always been that way, and it always will be.

Cell Phones....Palm Pilots....Hand-held this, Hand-held that....blah! I say it's all garbage if you ask me. I've never bought any of the above, and I'm doing my best to avoid ever doing so.

I like to keep my life simple....and I like to be "hard to reach" if you know what I mean I'm pretty anti-gadget myself...but hey, maybe these this new forum will transform me into a gadget hound, you never know

Well, i would say for the majority of the "stupid" gadgets, like a radio toothbrush(great idea)the reason they make them is because people buy them.

I am the same way. My coworkers had to drag me to the supply office to get issued a pager today. I didn't want to be "contactable", if you know what I mean. There are some gadgets that I think are useful, but the majority of them are useless, as you've said. I like to play with them, but I rarely use anything besides a pen and paper to keep myself on track.

Yeah I too have managed to hold out against the cell phone blitzkrieg. A palm has never even been a thought in my head. So I say resist our communicative oppressors! We don't need small black boxes with stylish carrying cases attached to various parts of our bodies. All we need is a custom built PC that requires 14 fans to keep it from over heating, has more hard disk space than the space shuttle, and more IDE devices than you can shake a stick at. Fight on my like-minded rebels!

YES! Most definately I would love that. 80's music is the best. I would probably get caught up in the music and end up brushing for 20 minutes. That would be very good for my dental hygein.

I like my cell phone. It has caller ID so if I don't wanna talk to who ever is callin' me I just let my voice mail take it. If I talk to said person later and they ask why I didn't pick up I'm like, "You called? I must have been in a dead zone."

I also hate using pay phones. Way to unsanitary. You think those things ever get cleaned?

Well put BloodRed. I totally agree. I myself like to hear about these new things, but I would never put a penny down for any of them. On this topic, I was flipping channels on the good old TV and guess what show came up on TLC. Gadget Central. They show all the latest gadgets. On this episode they had dating gizmos. Like computer match finders and electronic breath testers. O come on, can't we do anything ourself? jeez.
