Post How hot is a normal Pentium 4? 60 degrees Celcius?

My Pentium 4 1.8Ghz consistently runs at 60 degrees Celcius. I check the retail heatsink and fan, and it is attatched securely. What could be causing my processor to run at such a high temperature?

This may be possible, however I am experiencing mutliple programs crashing(AOL, Internet Explorer, etc.) Also when watching videos with Windows Media Players, I hear many glitches in the audio that were not there before I installed this processor.

That is quite a bit higher than a standard P4. Your own case and room temp will effect this. Also if you are using a thermal pad that is not as efficient as grease.

I'm going to me this over to C&C where you can find even more help.

I would say you are about 5C or 10C from maximum operating temp.

That seems way too high. My p4 1.6 runs about 37(c) idle, (no case fans) and can go as high as 57(c) after 2 hours of 3d gaming. I'm definetly getting some case fans on payday.

Where are you reading these temps from? I was getting your temps when using the Asus Probe software that comes with my mobo...But when I checked the bios cpu temp, I would get a reading of 34 C idle 43C full load...

If in fact those are the acutal temps, what kind of a cooling setup do you have?

Wow you have almost the exact system I was going to build for myself until I decided to wait for the Northwoods to come out and drop a bit in price.
