Question Need Quake3 help, NEW USER

I've been playing Q2 for a long time, and I just got Q3 and I'm having trouble setting it up the way I'm comfortable playing. In Q2, I had "freelook" turned off, and I used mouse2 to activate "mouselook." That way, my view was always centered unless I clicked mouse2 to look up or down by moving my mouse. I can't find anything similar in Q3. It seems "freelook" is always on, which means I have to get used to aiming in both the X and Y axis all the time. Call me lazy, but that's how I'm comfortable. Does anyone know how to acheive the same effect in Q3 as in Q2? I wanna go fraggin', but I'll be toast if I can't figure this one out!

Fire up Q3A and go to Setup/Controls/Look.
Set the 'Mouselook' option to your favorite button (You mentioned that was mouse 2).
Also, set the 'Free Look' option there to off.

That should give you the same setup you had in Q2. Although I suggest you try having mouselook always on. It frees up a mouse button and allows a quicker response to threats above and below your current position.

Okay, maybe I have a different version of Q3A (couldn't be, it's full retail version for Windows), but the only mouse options I have under SETUP/CONTROLS/LOOK is "mouse speed" "invert mouse" and "smooth mouse". That's my problem, I don't have a "mouse look" option in Q3 like I had in Q2. Any other ideas? Are there any sub-menus that I'm overlooking?

Maybee our difference in options is caused by not having the same update patch as I too have the full retail version. I have the 1.17 patch installed.

There are many more options in the Look secion then you indicate and I didnt even mention all of them.

Yipee! Thanks BT. Upgrading to the 1.17 patch did the trick! I ventured out for the first time last night, and spent some time getting the feel of the new environments. Pretty cool stuff. It will take me a few weeks to be more of a threat to my opponents, though. I spent a lot of time last night as frag fodder, but I did manage a close second on one board (20 to 19.

Anyway, one more little issue. My new MS optical mouse works great, except the wheel isn't recognized properly by Q3. I want to set it to scroll weapons, but it doesn't seem to work. I'm going to load the latest mouse driver and see if that has any effect. Any other suggestions?

With my Logitech mouse I had the same problem. To fix this I went into the mouse properties under control panel and changed the "scrolling size" option to none.

I have no idea what kind of options MS provides. Look for one that relates to "scrolling size" and disable it. Also there might be an option for "Office 97 compatability scroll". Turn that off too.
