Doom3 = My computer's "Prison Bed-Fellow"
Food for thought about Doom3 and the Great Radeon 9700 Pro:
listen to this before you complain about Doom3 running slow on Radeon 9700s and Ti4600s:
r_mode 4 (800x600): timedemo activate_demo1
... 33.3fps
r_mode 7 (1280x1024): timedemo activate_demo1
... 31.3fps!
holy ****!!! no more complaining that the mighty Radeon 9700pro isnt up to the task of Doom3! No noticable difference between those vastly different resolutions! Now time to find the frame limiter and turn it off. time to see how it really stacks up.
Ok, now the real facts behind that statement:
CPU: Athlon 1600+ operating at 1.8ghz (342fsb)
512MB DDR (again, 342 MHz)
Radeon 9700pro (overclocked to 340/780)
"Medium Quality" .cfg used. This is the default for this alpha.
16x Performance Aniso, No AA.
All tests run in 32bpp color mode with all sliders in ATI OpenGL maxed out.
Ok, so my Rdeon is a bit overclocked and therefor not representative, but its still impresive. I almost shat myself when i was watching the demo at 1280x1024. No real noticable difference in frame rate! I only even went to r_mode 7 for shits and giggles, not expecting it to run well at all. Guess I was wrong here. Wonder what ramping up my CPU will do for it. One way to find out...
**edit:
Oh ya, one more thing. I had it configed to "r_usenv30 1"
I know, the 9700 is an R300, not even the same manufacturer. It was one of those "what the hell, why not see" things that I forgot to turn off cause it worked fine.
I just tried a timedemo with "r_usenv20 1", no noticable difference.
Also tried setting it to r_useStandardGL "1"...this looks awful! So bad I didnt even run a timedemo.
