    Your opinion on Tablet PCs

I've had a few people ask me about Tablet PCs and I want to know what y'all think.

I've used the Compaq tablet and while I was impressed with it's engineering, it didn't seem to have much practical application for what I need a computer to do, mainly because I rely on a keyboard. Another person in my office(a multimedia designer)liked it because it was useful for programs that relied on drawing. I thought, even though it was much smaller and lighter than a notebook computer, it was still a pain to take it with you just to take notes. It did have good sound and good video output capabilities and could be usefull for on-the-road presentations.

I guess the decision on whether it's a viable product depends on what you will use it for.

I'll also go with it depending on what your needs are. As it only sports a P3. This means SDRAM 133mhz (and 133 FSB) at best.
    Funny thing, in a way it's like a HUGE pda : )

    ditto,
id rather get a pda since they are getting pretty powerful, and with a microdrive they have a lot of storage capacity and theyre still 5x smaller than a tablet pc. the whole tablet thing was a good idea, but i dont think people are gonna find a use for them since laptops are cheaper

    I'd get one

I really have no excuse to get a laptop, but if I get one, it'll either be some older model for Wifi use, or a Tablet PC.

But if I'm going to pay retail + 10% for a laptop, I want something that will perform at the same level as others. P3 1Ghz (or less) ain't cutting it for the money, in my opinion. I'm hoping they come out with another generation, much faster, which would possibly bring down the price of these things to something I'd be willing to get.

I played with one at work and loved it, though.

Until then my ppc phone is going to have to stand in, I'm afraid.
