ok I am convinced
the hard drive has to be the main thing that imporves performance in a system. I got from a old quantum in this P2 rig to a WD special edition (and yess, this one realises all 80 gigs too). I can barely tell a difference between this and my main box when I had this drive in (for normaL tasks ).

LOL!!!
Any learning experience is always welcomed.
The hard drive does makes a HUGE difference.
I have some older 2gig drives that I load for testing sometimes and my system's speed drops by a huge amount with the older, slower drives. I hate to load the racks with these relics but they are only for testing purposes.

sad thing is, this rig sucks, keep crashing, I think it is ie that does it though (just installed xp though). funny thing is it runs toast, prime95 and seti at home for hours and doesn't have probs. I got 2 80mm 50cfm fans blowing on the cpu too (it is really ghetto, don't ask). Anyways, I may just load redhat on it and not worry, it is only for writting c code when I am at home, and also burning cds (and redhat installs cdrecord by default ). Hmm, going to have to dig up the guide to installing fluxbox in redhat .
