    Averatec 3200 Series

Anyone have experience with this brand...

the main selling points for me are...
    - built in 54g wifi
    - 4.2 lbs
    - less than $900

purpose of the laptop is to perform everyday tasts and schoolwork and remain very portable... I just never heard of the brand and was wondering if anyone had expereince

I think I've seen those at office depot. Those notebooks seem pretty impressive to me by being very small yet still very cheap. Usualy small notebooks like that cost more

my neighbors has one and is pretty happy with it.

All the major retailors sell it now. Im not really sure who actually makes it. The charger says "lite-on" so im not sure if just the chargers is made by lite-on or lite-on owns averatec.

    well i bought it...

so far so good... its no centrino, but its probably the best ultra portable for under $1000

    initial impressions..

    Pros
    - very small and light as advertised
    - the built in WiFi is fast (54g) and has very good range (better than my dlink 54g PCI card on my desktop)
    - WiFi on/off button is very helpful for saving battery life
    - decently speedy

    Cons
    - LCD screen is mediocre... definately a notch worse than the Sony VAIO screens... lighting is uneven
    - gets kinda hot (i blame the AMD athlon cpu)
    - mediocre battery life (3hrs)... cant touch the 6+hrs of a centrino
    - GPU sucks (Unichrome... havent benchamrked but reviews say it gets about 2000 3dmark2k1)
