    Question quick question

    hey all,
im about to order my first laptop. ive narrowed it down to 2 different computers. the first is the HP zd7000. i picked this one out because of its 17" screen and 64 mb video card. The other laptop im considering is the dell 8600 b/c of its centrino cpu. Im leaning towards the zd7000 because im partial to the bigger screen and i dont plan on traveling too much. Only to and from school. Are any of you all familiar with these two laptops? which would you suggest?
    Thanks
    My Laptop:
    HP zd7000
    2.8 ghz p4
    1024 mb ram
    Geforce FX Go 5200 64mb

Personally, I'd really try to go with a Pentium M processor (the CPU used in Centrino notebooks). Even if you're not planning to be off AC power all that often, the extra battery life will probably come in handy a lot more than you realize!

If you really are going to use it for school, get one with a Pentium-M and also try and find one that has the option of removing the optical drive and replacing it with another battery, the 8600 can do this.

    MacBook Pro 13-inch, 2.3Ghz i5, 8GB RAM, 640GB HD
    Desktop: i5 2500K (w/ CM Hyper 212 Plus) , 16GB DDR3, 2x240GB OCZ Agility SSD, 2x1TB in RAID0, 2xeVGA GeForce GTX 570, Corsair TX750M PSU, ASUS Sabertooth P67, Dell 2209WA eIPS LCD
    Home Server: Intel Pentium G630, ASRock H61M/U3S3, 4GB RAM, 80GB + 2TB HD

The Pentium M machines are much quieter and cooler. Heat is very important if the machine is sitting on your lap. I've managed to burn my legs with a 2GHz P4.
