    DVD player from a PC???

I got an idea of making a custom wooden case (stained and coated with polyurethane, to give it a nice look)

then an idea spring into my head about making a small case as a DVD player unit ...

I found a chaintech model which has the nForce2 IGP with S-VIDEO OUT!!! (can any s-video port be converter to regular RCA?)

anyway, if the mobo is paired with a DVD burner (to read/burn) DVDs, then this can become a PVR if a TV-Tuner card is added ...

it can also be a great home theater system if a good sound card is added (along the lines of an Audigy?)

but wait, there's MORE!!! (sales pitch?)
it can double as a PC with the Deluxe Video package!!! (9800pro?)

anyway, as for CPU/RAM ... for the basic gfx package (nforce2 igp), the CPU could start at 1.6GHz applebred Duron and go upto the 3200+ Barton (gfx package required), with thorton inbetween

the RAM would be from 2x256MB to 2x512MB PC2100 to PC2700 to PC3200

the sound, could be on-board 5.1, or Audigy 5.1 or the Audigy 2 7.1

the TV-Tuner (for PVR) would be probably just Avermedia MTVStudio (includes remote, nice card for around 60USD), and maybe a Hauppaugge as an upgrade?

the PVR would also include a DVD Burner, but the "regular" would include a DVD/CD Reader, and maybe a CDRW/DVD drive for the "Music" model?

also, instead of the floppy drive, there would be a 7-in-1 card reader, so you view photos and stuff ...

what do you guys think??? is there a market for this stuff???

and the wooden case wouldn't be too big either, and would be quiet

as far dimentions, something around 5"x12"x10" HxDxW

    what do you guys think???

I'll go look up the prices for stuff and report on how much "each" would run
    Activation? What activation?

the problem comes down to a wireless keyboard, which must have a built in trackball or touchpad ... (the OS would most likely be WinXP Home)

sure, there would be a market for that. the main problem would be getting the word out. then there's the fact that you'd have to be quite skilled as a user in order to get the maximum out of the system's features. but of course, such an advanced setup probably only interests the technologically-minded crowd, which it is aimed at anyway.
