recommend a laptop to me
hello,
laptops main use: office, internet and music via headphone out.
i wan't a laptop for university. i wan't a 15" screen, i don't care if it's widescreen as it's mainly for work not movies (does widescreen help with anything over then movies or photo editing?), 802.11g wireless, 512ddr, fast intel processor (intel b/c mainly for business aps, but not too expensive), and good battery life. i've heard good things about averatec. can anyone make a recommendation for my needs? thanks.
edit: also as quiet a keyboard as possible and not too heavy
widescreen centrino looks like a good combo for producitivity and battery life

I have an Dell Inspiron 8600 that I really like. It is a wide screen, but that is nice for school because I can have two documents open side by side. I bought the WUXGA (1920x1200) which in retrospect, is too high of resolution. The print is just too small. I would the 1680x1050 (which is the middle resolution screen) if I had it to do over again.
It has a 9600 pro radeon mobility in it, so it runs most games fairly well.
If you buy the stand for it, it's a nice desktop replacement. The monitor is at a nice height, and you're typing on a real keyboard and using a real mouse.
The built in keyboard is quiet. The fan does get a little loud when gaming or folding (which I don't do on it because it's too loud). However, it's not small. Its 8 pounds and big if you're trying to unfold it on a plane. Works for watching movies on the plane, but working on it would be impossible.
They are also on sale now for 25% off.

If you have the money, get a IBM T42. There are some out with 15", and they rock.

You could go with a Dell D800, they start at about $1300. Personally, I go with a D600 and a 14 inch view. It'll save you a couple of hundred bucks and almost 4 pounds.
