Does anyone have Acer's Laptops?
They are the cheapest laptops on newegg.com?
How reliable is this laptop brand?

I dunno, but I've wanted an Acer Ferrari laptop for awhile. I preferred the older bright red ones, but the new carbon fiber ones are really nice too.
I don't know how their high end compares to their low end. I've always associated Acer with "cheap garbage" but I've heard nothing but good things regarding their Ferrari notebooks.

Despite their low price, Acer laptops are fairly decent - the machines are solid and look good in the flesh, not the cheap rubbish you'd expect from the price. They do tend to skimp on some of the parts, the screens are lower quality and the hard drives tend to be 4200rpm but it's exactly what you'd expect for the price. They're quite popular in the UK yet they seem to be fairly reliable, at least for now.

i try not to generalize brands...
for example my uncle bought the acer aspire 1600 for $700 at best buy the other day... its a not a total peice of crap but you can easily tell that it was built really cheap.. horrible backlight bleeding, rattling buttons, super low capacity battery, lack of ports....
this was totally different from my friend's acer ferrari that i played with the other day which felt sturdier than any ibm thinkpad that i have ever used....
therefore, the model/line is more important than the brand.

I have an acer, i bought for the exact reason you said. Cheapest lappy on newegg basicaly. It is decent, 1.6ghz p-m, ddr2(i upgraded to 2gb, ram is cheap), 60gb hdd only 4200rpm though. Integrated graphics is ok for me. The only problem i have with it, is the screen kinda sucks after playing with my friends dell 700m. The battery life also sorta blows.
