    Surveillance DVR

Someone has contacted me about replacing an old system (4 cams, 5fps each, horrible quality) and I'm clueless about this stuff...really.

I'm looking for small profile types of cameras (6-8 cams @ 10-15fps) that will produce good quality color image, preferably 640x480 or so resolution, good enough to identify faces or products of shoplifters and/or dishonest employees.

I'm looking for the cameras, hardware, and software. I plan to use a different PC.

Anyone have any experience in this department, perhaps either links to quality software or camera packages?

    Thanks!

I installed a 40 camera system for a Sheriff Dept. I used their PC33 cameras. They do sell higher resolution cameras. While the quality is much better than the old system, it's definately no 'hollywood' security system. "What's he reading? Zoom in, enhance the image"

I also used their 4 channel DVR and put a 250gig hdd drive in there, but they now sell a PCI card so you can use a PC as the DVR.

    Thanks for the input.

One thing I've noticed, nearly every single of one of the sites I've visited are horrible in design and a pain to navigate, usually containing generic photos of the equipment. Lol
