Acer laptop ACHI back to IDE

See sig for laptop details. Is there a way to switch back to IDE from ACHI without doing an reinstall? I need to flash the firmware in my SSD and can only do it in IDE mode.

I've always had a lot of issues doing that, but how about booting the machine off another device (DVD or USB) just to do the update? I've done that before, but it's been a while -- before Windows Vista/7.

I've also got an adapter that I can attach bare 2.5 or 3.5 drives to one of my rigs (I got it on a half price deal), and I would think that something like that would allow you to do the update if you are attaching it as an IDE drive. It is a pretty handy little adapter.

Yup, and yup. I can flash it from my main rig which runs IDE and I have one of the adpaters (paid full price, $24, OUCH). I read and heard the same as you, hard to do. I was just hoping someone had a method that worked. I appreciate your help -- thanks.

Why do you want to flash the firmware? If there's an update and you read all the info related to the update - will it fix something you need fixed?

Yes, the 1.5 firmware release adds Garbage Collection (GC) so I don't have to keep remembering to run it myself. The Turbo drives came with TRIM, but not GC.
