Win98SE:
Compatible w/everything, a little faster in most games.

Win2K Pro:
Compatible w/almost everything, much more stable, much more secure.

I'd recommend Win2K, it's just a better OS IMO.

I know this is a little off topic, (can't really be helped now that OT is closed ) but welcome back It's to bad you were not here for one final Friday beer post.

Win2k benefits:
- Much more stable (it doesn't crash...what a concept!)
- More secure (but I'd still recommend using a firewall)
- More comprensive set of utilities/programs come with it
- Allows you to close a program (no matter what) if its having problems
- If an application crashes, it doesn't crash Windows

Win2k problems:
- Sound in some games (especially old DOS games) usually doesn't work
- Make sure you have hardware that will run on Win2k
- Make sure you use the right Win2k drivers
- File sharing (to Win9x PCs) across a LAN is annoying
- You might have to update some games to get them to work in Win2k (no biggie)

Note:
- If using Win2k, you should definitely get SP2 and probably download DX8 as well.

Again, sorry for the OT stuff in your forum. Have you dropped by
http://forums.combustionjunction.co.uk/default.asp
or http://forums.shawnscomputers.com

Most of the OT regulars are at these two now.
