Hey Sharky some advice please
Hi Sharky! Since you have one of the most popular hardware sites around I thought you'd be the best person to request advice from.
A couple of buddies of mine and I are planning on starting up a hardware review website (nothing major). The normal review of the latest crap and a lot of (biggest part of the site as it stands now) crazy overclocking. Peltiers, water coolers and maybe some liquid nitrogen if we manage to sneak a box in our university's lab :-). We've got about 5500$ stashed away for web hosting, getting the different platforms, new HS/fans, vid card, misc hardware etc. But at some point it would be nice to be able to get some stuff from the manufacturers :-). Here lies my question. Do we need to contact them? If so what do we tell them? Or do they need to notice us first and reach out?
I'd greatly appreciate any suggestions.

Hi Peste,
There's no real way it works... Some companies sit up and take notice if you do good work whilst others won't bat an eyelid if you write the best thesis in the world. It's a mixed bag really. Be prepared for some hits and misses and to spend some of your own money on hardware.
Thanks for the kind words and good luck on your adventure. May the force be with you and all that...
