    Question Coding with HTML and need help.

    Well, after weeks of trying, i've finally managed to get my page up. ITs the first time i've done one with the intent of putting it on my own domain. But i have a problem. I've used the FTP to upload the files etc. But it says i need to create a file called "Index.htm". What is this? And how do i create it?
    Any advise on this is very much appreciated.

    Thanks.

    On webservers, there is usually a default page that opens as soon as you connect to the site. For instance, http://www.yahoo.com and http://www.yahoo.com/index.htm would mean exactly the same thing. Apparently, your website has index.htm set as the default page, so rename the file you want to open as soon as people enter your site to index.htm and you should be all set.

    Thanks very much. I'm changing it now. Also, i'm having problems with coding in images with HTML, i just get the box with the white square and a red cross where images should be. How do i prevent this?

    Thanks.

    Hm, give me the URL to your website and I'll have a look at it. The white box with the red X means you're not pointing to the right place in your <IMG SRC="path/picture.gif"> statement.

    OK, as for the pages, somehow your HTML files got their first letter capitalized (or should I say capitalised). That's why it doesn't work, nor do your links work, because they point to, for example, images.htm but they are listed on that server as Images.htm
    Not sure if you can ftp into your ISP and change it there.
    As for the images, your IMG SRC tags have wrong information. change the image links to:
    <IMG SRC="header11.jpg"> to show your header (I know you have an Images subfolder, but the header11.jpg file isn't in there). The Background image, I don't see it in your directory or subdirectory at all. If you want to use Background Images, you should put them in your <BODY> tag anyway.
    Hope that helps.
    Sad thing is, you probably don't remember the day Freddie Mercury died... I was shattered.

    What would help with the images would be to actually have them on the site Your first picture points to a pictur~1/bgrounds folder which doesn't exist (there is a folder called images but nothing in it). For the header11.jpg change:

    <IMG><A HREF="http://scuttle.fateback.com/header11.jpg"><IMG></A>
    -to-
    <IMG SRC="header11.jpg">

    And finally for your image that links to the links page change:

    <IMG SRC="pictur~1/welcom~1/10links.gif">
    -to-
    <IMG SRC="10links.gif">

    Hope this helps you out

    Before you ask, you have to change the name of the jpg to header11.jpg (lower case jpg) or change the <IMG SRC="header11.jpg"> to "header11.JPG".
    It's good practice to always use lower case for filenames when building a site, or at least have some consistency. Will save you a lot of headaches.

    I got the links image up though! It may not lead to anything at the moment, but it will soon, even if its an under constrution page.

    I'm the man! i redid some of the coding as you said, and now it works. I found the index problem. I was using a freeware tool called DiDa and in automatically puts a capital letter at the beggining of each page, some changes in notepad later and TADA its up properly, now i just need to get those links sorted.

    Thanks to Dengin and muisejt, you have helped me lots with this, you are awarded with.... Your names being printed on the webpage!
