Do you have to have 2 identical size drives to have Raid 0? How much faster is it, and in what types of situations would it be faster?
Well if ur running RAID 0, u don't HAVE to have 2 identical drives but, if you have say a 40 gig n a 60 gig HDD in an array, you'll have a total of only 80 gigs usable, the other 20 would be lost. Plus u might run into problems with different brands, speeds, and space HDD's within the same array.Quote:

I heard that ideally ur HDD should be twice as fast, but i don't think that happens in realworld trials. And if im right it should make load times faster in games and stuff like that when ur hdd reads for stuff or something. Im not so sure. I think boogyman's link will explain this better.
I have had many different RAID arrays, as far as performance, it is noticiable but mostly when transfering or dealing with large file sizes. This of course is refering to a RAID 0 array using IDE hard drives. High rpm SCSI and larger IDE arrays are a little bit different, but thats not something most people get into.
If you have a RAID controller and 2 hard drives there no reason not to use it.
