Hmm I might have to fire this up again and see if the stuttering is fixed now :)
Game is still awesome. Best AD&D game ever made IMO. Has stood the test of time.
I liked the plot in BG much better than BGII. I liked the antagonist a lot better as well. Seriously... a wizard named "Jon"? Lame. What was the last name? Smith?
But I liked the classes, sub classes, rules (various weapon styles... including two weapons), and monsters much MUCH better in BGII. Was a little disappointed with BG in that 90% of your adversaries were either humanoids or dopplegangers. In BGII, you actually had more AD&D type monsters to fight. BGII was much closer to the actual game of AD&D than BG was.
Both are awesome games though. I have recently loaded BG back up and FINALLY fininished Durlag's Tower. They have stood the test of time well. I agree... my fav RPGs ever. Too bad WOTC bought AD&D and ruined it. No more 2nd Edition PC games... :(
The extra classes, monsters and stuff make Baldur's Gate II more replayable in that you can try more different things, but Baldurs Gate I just sucked you in better...there was more atmosphere when you could WALK between locations, piece by piece, rather than always instant traveling between them as in Baldurs Gate II. Also a large chunk of BGII just takes place in the districts of amn, while Baldurs Gate I was more spread out.
Still tho, I have not played a better RPG since these two games came out...
epic thread revival
I grow nostalgic thinking about BG II... I spent 100+ hours into it and I think I was barely thru first half! o_O I may be a bit... anal about things but still...
Never did understand why people rushed through the core missions just to finish early. A lot of the richness in those games were the side quests. Plus, if you saved the core missions to last, you were much more powerful going into the final battles... which were always hard enough as it was.
