I know that the prices for DRAM (all kinds) are really low right now, but what about SRAM? If we really want to go faster why not use it, cost?

YUP!! The cost comes from the fact than on a cell-by-cell basis, SRAM is HUGE compared to DRAM. You can cram a lot more bits in a smaller space with DRAM because the cell is essentiall just a capacitor, whereas SRAM has at least a couple of transistors. You would think the capacitor would take up area - but they play tricks like putting the capacitor in a trench so that most of the area is in the vertical dimension, thus saving on die area.Quote:

What about 1T-SRAM? It supposedly only requires 1 transistor per cell.

1T SRAM is in fact a type of DRAM.
True SRAM is 4 to 6 times larger then DRAM. There is custom DRAM out there that is almost as fast as SRAM.
I think the big problem is that DRAM has already outstripped the motherboards ability to transfer the data. SRAM would have the same fundamental problem and wouldn’t offer much it the way of improvement performance wise.
