Do these work well at all? I'm considering buying the set, as it pre-cut and comes with glue and all. Lazy mans silencer mats. :cool: However they do cost quite a bit, but I guess that's what perfection costs... Does anyone have experience with these sets?

I opted for the cheapo man rather than the lazy man (which is usually my first choice). What I did was go to the local HW store and buy some thin corkboard sheets and some 3M spray adhesive. A good pair of scissors or knife will do the cutting just fine. I also was able to make gaskets for my fans and HD. The HD gasket made the biggest difference out of all of the work. I basically jammed the cork between the case mounts and the HD to insulate vibration. I have 2 other HD in a RAID config, but haven't gotten around to them yet. When they shut down I can only hear air moving, it is awesome.
The other mod that I have talked about so many times that I am waiting for someone to complain is the shahsa-rado (a cheap rip off of the noisecontrol silverado). Just 2 Nidec Gamma 28 blowers mounted directly above my HS (so that I can actually move my case without the weight on my CPU socket). The secret is to make sure that they are touching the HS to maintain the air pressure from blowers to HS. You cannot hear these running at all and my temps are about 39C at idle. Originally in the 50C range. Quiet and cool, gotta love it. Of course last but not least I have very good airflow throughout my case. Only fans besides CPU HS and chipset are the PS and the 120mm Panaflo (both exhaust acting like a vacuum), set at about 9V with a voltage regulator. Total costs are in the $70 USD range for CPU and case cooling. Only thing better than being lazy is being cheap and having it work.

I had my mommy :D buy them for me from the shack and mail them to me. Its actually the 2nd pair that I've had in about five years. The first set was in an Intel sytem, the good old Celeron 300a OC to a 450 trick. Now that was a great OC. I used them as exhaust for the whole case, right beside the PCI cards. Cut 2 nice square wholes and they were the only fans besides the CPU and the PS. I sealed all little cracks and holes in the case and it would hold a full sheet of paper to the intake vent. That was a great case. Plain vanilla, cool and quiet.
As I couldn't get corkboard ANYWHERE in this city I got some really cheapo cell foam mats, about 5 cm thick. I think they should be capable of shutting the noise in, but at the same time it does nothing good for my temps, so I may have to get another fan in there. I also think it's a bit of a fire hazard, but my case ain't gonna catch fire so that's no issue really!

I've done the silencing job, but it was no good in terms of my temps. I went up 5C on idle, and the noise level didn't go down by much. It did decrease somewhat, but I have no means to measure it, so I guess I will never know. Also, I'll have to put a new fan in there now, meaning more noise anyway :rolleyes:
I'll post the pics tomorrow if I remember. Oh and btw, this is not for my Chieftec case, which is not very loud. I've had to do the silencing on my missus' Aopen HQ-09 because it was way louder and in the same room... That FOP 32-1 is pretty loud compared to my Taisol CGK760 (and extra fans).

It doesn't look so great, but obviously this is all inside. Also, I hadn't cut the hole for the intake fan on the front yet on that picture, just in case you were wondering. :)
I still need to get some ASII and an intake fan though. CPU currently has NO thermal paste! (42C idle). Duron 800 lives inside there.
The cell foam is probably insulating the case too much. That was why I went with the corkboard. It is thinner and not as insulating. Try a craftshop or HW store.
The cell foam is indeed very heat trapping, as it is designed to keep you warm when you lie/sit on it, but with a little better airflow I think I'll be OK. I would have got corkboard if I could, but I tell you: I looked EVERYWHERE! They all said it's becoming harder to get hold of it now, and it only comes in the shape of floor tiles, which are too hard and thick. :(Quote:
