Z-560 Questionnaire - please check it out!
Woohoo finally my dad bought the Z560's for moi! Hurray! I do have a few questions!
1) How long did it take them to arrive for a usual 3-5 day arrival (did it actually take 3-5)?
2) Please go to MY ROOM to see pictures of my room to see if you think my placement idea is ok!
3) When I saw the demo at Best Buy, that M3D button only seemed to make sound come out of the front 2 speakers - I thought it made it a surround sound experience for usual 2 output channel things (like some DVDs and CDs). It even says on Logitech: "With our exclusive M3D Matrix technology, you experience amazingly realistic surround sound from standard 2-channel stereo sound sources such as music CDs and MP3 files." Then why did I only hear it on 2 speakers?
4) Is a fan on the sub really necessary?
5) How long is a good "break in" period?
6) If the sub goes bad, is their support friendly?
7) Do they kick ***!?
YAY!

2 channels... front left and front right. 4 channels would include the rear left and rear right. Basically this is a gimmick. Anyone who plans on only using half of their speakers to simulate surround sound instead of using the 4 speakers already provided to do just that should buy some oceanfront property in Arizona while they're at it.
I kinda laugh at the DVD players with the simulated 3D sound thingy in em too... what's the point of buying a DVD player if you're only going to use 2 channels?

1. Took under 5 days for me...if i remember, it actually got there in 2 days. Luckily for me, Provantage had a supply warehouse close by to my delivery site. Fastest ground shipping i have ever received.
2. I have little comments on placement, but if you can, try to get all of the satellite drivers at ear level and dont separate them too much to improve the imaging of the "phantom" center channel in DVDs. If you want the most bass possible, put the sub under your desk or near a wall. If you want cleaner bass, keep it away from walls and enclosures. Best thing i can suggest is try a bunch of arrangements and see what you like.
3. It should have expanded the 2 channel input to 4 via a matrix decoder algorithm. Perhaps they were a malfunctioning set or the rear speakers werent hooked up.
4. I havent had to. But, i live in a generally cold climate city. And summer has not gotten here yet, so i dont know how well they will work in the heat. If you intend on blasting them all the time, a fan couldn't hurt.
5. We had a rather heated discussion on whether they need to be broken in at all. My suggestion is that if you want to take the safest course possible, go easy on them for a week or so, or if you cant wait, 2-3 days. Keeping it under 50% volume during that time period and avoiding using it as a centerpiece for an all night party should be sufficient.
6. Well, so far i cant recall anybody being refused a new replacement set, usually issues due come up of whether you have to send the broken one back or not. And if you have to pay for shipping.
7. Well, they are no match for my home setup, but for $150-200, yes they do kick a lot of ***.

Well, yeah, for mp3s/CDs, but for certain DVDs, 50% is barely enough to hear the dialogue. The Matrix comes to mind. :-)
