I currently own
P3-600
Asus P3V4X mobo
128+128+256= 512mb PC133 RAM
I don't want to trash my 512mb PC133 RAM yet, because buying 512mb of DDR will be hella expensive for me right now.
I want a decent CPU + mobo(that has 3 DIMM for pc133 RAM) solution for price under $165.
I want to hear from you on what I can do~
btw, i use the system for gaming mostly... :D
(like bootlegged WarCraft3beta, Half-Life...etc.)
I suggest an Asus VIA VT82C694T motherboard with a 1.3 celeron tualatin cpu. That should be a good combo for $160.
This board can upgrade to a 1 ghz p3 slot 1. This would be your cheapest route. If you do get the 1ghz chip, download a bios upgrade to support it. Another way would be to do what Indus said about getting both a new MB and CPU. Although I do no think that you need that. The 1ghz chip and maybe a new video card would be a great investment. You have plenty of pc133 ram and it would be a waste as you said to upgrade to a DDR solution. I suggest a 1 GHZ slot 1 CPU and if you can afford it a GF3 TI200 and OC it to GF3 or even GF3 TI500 levels.
I'm just throwing this out there as another solution. I'm not saying it's better just another option.

like i said..it's just an idea. i'm in the same boat that you're in and looking for ways to shave corners too.

Same here, I got the 512 megs of pc 133 clk2 ram, I didnt want to put it to waste so I didnt get DDR :(Quote:

Doesn't the K7S5A only have 2 DIMM's for PC133 SDRAM?
Yeah 2 for both SD and DDR, sorry about that post. Those headache pills wack me out something fierce. Not only do they make me dead tired, but I get a dizzy high like feeling.
