yo gluegun, some of your knowledge plz.....

hey your always saying that the santa cruz is a good card for music lovers and all and that it has some good gaming stuff and bla bla bla...

but im curious and want to know exactly how it makes music sound better. i mean, what sounds better when you listen to a song on the santa cruz over an audigy? and a lot of people say that it sounds so much clearer and such but what about bass? does it change the way it sounds at all? does it make the bass sound more realitic when watching movies? does it make it hit harder when its supposed to or what? i know a sub can be only as good as it is but if a sound card can make you hear things "you never heard before" then why cant it change the way you hear the bass? is the card louder than other cards? how does it sound in movies and what sperates it from other sound cards? im pretty much asking a very broad question so if you can answer the basic questions that would be great. also some good links would be nice. and links from different view points would be nice. how much of a difference would i notice in general over my sblive 5.1 card(in a nutshell)? thanks for your time and everyone else feel free to give your opinions and such......

I agree that the sound quality of the Audigy is inferior to the Turtle Beach, but the EAX3 makes a VERY big impact as well.

They level out that way, I suppose.
It's like comparing a RISC cpu to a CISC cpu, in lay mans terms.

Yes, if you will read other posts here, the bass in the Santa Cruz is cleaner and more well defined, and it is not artificially EQ'ed... but you do have a high quality hardware EQ if you want to do that.

I haven't tested the Audigy versus the Santa Cruz directly, so I don't have first hand information on exactly HOW the santa cruz sounds better..

but, from what other people have said in various places, including that review and here:

You can know that the bass will be better on the Santa Cruz... I am going to ask some people exactly how and why, as I am not sure...

I should be able to post a comparison between a Sonic Fury and SB Live later on today. OK, I know the Live probably doesnt hold a candle to the Audigy, but all of the same, I am interested to hear the difference for myself. I am not one to hear differences that arent there, so I'll get back to you.

Squirrel Meat if you go back through many posts on here you'll see that crawlingeye always tries shooting down everything gluegun says. If you want top notch quality advise on these forums when it comes to audio then gluegun is your man. Take Crawlingeyes opinions with a grain of salt.:rolleyes:

I appreaciate some of the finer values in this plethora of audio information, but I am always reminded that this is a PC audio forum, not a home theater/stereo forum. I think things tend to stray a little far from home on most topics and this is where the flaming begins.

Keep it simple, we're not all audio connoisseurs. We're just casual PC users who like loud and clear gaming, music and movie playback. We're not trying to win a science fair here... well, most of us. ;)

Your preference on sound quality is only capacitated by the experiences you have had with it. If you listened to something along the quality of AM radio your whole life and one day heard FM, you'd probably wet yourself with excitement. However from a scientific standpoint there really isn't a huge difference between the two formats.

There's dozens of different factors that go into PC sound and by that right, several cards and speaker sets worth purchasing. The trick is to narrow it down to what you really want the card/speakers to do and fit it in your price range.

*PLEASE* do yourself a favor... if you are going to lay down cash for something, look at some reviews first from unbiased sources. Don't just go from general opinions -- it's your money. I may boast my views and opinions on Product-X but I will never tell anyone that they *should* buy it just because I did. That's kind of an insult, IMO.

Yes, it does.
I'm unclear on if it works with movies, though?

However, EAX3 is quite a large audio technology, which would be relevant to the "Audigy vs Santa Cruz" thing.

The Audigy has a poor THD rating, in comparison to the Santa Cruz.
That's not to say that it's neccessarily a poor rating. Just in comparison to the Santa Cruz.

very well said, i couldnt agree with you more. but i still think peoples opinions are what help make a decision. after all, thats part of what a forum is for right? if your gonna post something its gonna be your opinion. not saying that every one should take everyone elses advice and all but im just saying that perhaps its a good idea to listen to what people have ot say and then decipher for yourself if its valid or not. it 10 poeple out of 15 say that product-X is worht buying im gonna look into it. im not trying to win a science fair or anything i just want really good sounding sound, lol, that sounded funny. the main reason i was asking gluegun as my main topic is because he seems to be able to back up his statements with a lot of reviews and the such and he really seems to know what he is talking about and likes to compare stuff he already has. i like that and i look at that and see that its worht looking into. keep the opinions coming guys! :p

Here's where I come from on the subject of audio... In order for me to call a speaker 'good enough', it has to beat one minimum requirement, my minimum standards for something NOT sucking, if you will.

It has to sound at least as good as my $35 ($13 at Circuit City clearance prices...it is a tough to get model that they replaced with an inferior one...) Koss KSC-35 headphones. If it doesn't at least MEET those in sound quality, I will NOT recommend it... Which is why you don't see me recommending the DTT#### line of speakers, the Inspire line of speakers, most Bose speakers...
