Epox 83KA+ -vs- iWill XP333-R

OK these are the boards that i am debating over getting.

I know they are 2 totally different chipsets but has anyone found a direct comparision between them.

I would like to know how well the boards would overclock with
my current hardware setup as I am looking towards the 200 FSB mark.

I am currently rooting for the iWill because of it's 1/6x PCI divider, but I heard somewhere the Epox may ahve this option in a later bios revision... what is the likelyhood of this? Because the Epox is what has been topping the pile on the KT333 reviews and I would like to give them a shot... I just dont know if the high PCI frequency would go well with my PCI cards with that 1/5 divider.

For overclocking... Epox for sure. Stay away from the IWILL XP333...

Why? I am looking for reasons here. As I stated i don't believe my hardware on the PCI bus could cope at ( 200 * 1/5 ) 40MHz, so the iWill with ( 200 * 1/6 ) 33MHz would be ideal no?

I checked the forum for the iWill board, and mostly all that I came up is arguments saying "Go for Epox" with hardly any real reasons or proof to believe their opinions... I know the Epox board is nice, but I am stressing on the PCI bus issue.

What is the performance like on the Ali Magik Chipset in comparison to the KT266A and KT333 ( KT333CE )?

If you force a choice of the two, everyone here is going to tell you the Epox. If you want input from those that actually own the IWill board, go here.

The last time I recommended the IWill XP333 I was flamed by KJY9 for not making any sense and making false ignorant statements. Would someone please explain to me why the IWill XP333 overclocks just as well as the Epox, if not better? :rolleyes:

The PCI divider is the main advantage. A 200MHz FSB is A LOT easier on an IWill XP333 than on an EPOX 8K3A+. :rolleyes:

Show me where the Iwill will get higher OCs consistantly more than the Epox 8K3A?? That ...is a false statement. You're not going to take a proc as high as it can go without 2.2 Vcore, which the Iwill doesn't have...start making sensible posts and maybe you won't get flamed.

Did I say better performance? Did I say the processor will be able to overclock higher? The XP333 will allow you to overclock the FSB higher, but not the processor.

I can get mine to boot at 450 DDR...does that mean that it's a stable OC??

This is very general, but I'd like you guys to keep an open mind. The Iwill XP333 supports 2.035 VCore and 1/6 PCI divider. It's a pretty decent motherboard. Which is "better" is merely a matter of personal opinion, because neither is clearly ahead.

AMD Man, how can you even make a statement like that? (ie. "because neither is clearly ahead")

That mobo is probably on pair with the EPoX 8K7A in performance, an AMD 760 chipset mobo.

Add the facts that it only has 2.8 volts for the ram, 2.035 volts for the cpu compared to EPoX's 8K3A/+'s 2.2v. Not really personal opinion, these are just facts I throw out at you.

Lastly the 8K3A/+ also OCs better, thus making this an easy choice. ;)
