the time on my computer has been delaying automatically. i mean if i set the time correctly and if i were to look at the time again 2morow at the sae time it will be about 6 to 7 hours behind. Does this mean that i need a new battery, whihc goes on ur motherboard. could it also cause all these Fok!ng blue error screens.

Yes, if the clock is going slow, your battery needs replacement.
But I've never heard of a bad cmos battery causing BSODs. The only job the battery has is to keep the cmos settings when the power is off.
Yea i dont think its the cause of the blue screens but it is the cause of the time being off.
You need to get a new battery to fix the time off. That doesn't have anything to do with BSOD's though.
The Blue screens might be caused by your overclocking on your CPU. A jump from 166 to 233 is quite a jump for a P-1. Try underclocking it and see what happens, and your battery does need replacing.
Even worse, a CPU that doesn't exist (Celeron 166) can't be good for the system.Quote:

Seriously though, if you do have an OC (I'm not sure if your signature is a mistake or a joke), it could be causing the problem.
:D apparently, everytime u have a new post/thread asking for help.....someone would mentioned about your specialty, i.e. your overclocking of your existing system from 166 to 233 or 266 ;) and yet you never bother to tell us whether you have clocked back to your original GHz/MHz......:p ....Tell us thruthfully, you just want to ignore our advice on ridding your own overclocking please......so that we can give you the correct, corrrect way to overclock your system from MHz to 1GHz...:D
Didn't even notice that until I read the signature again. It could be the oc which is causing the problem or your registry.

If you are losing time and you leave your computer on, then your RTC is going bad, and that means replacing the motherboard. If you turn your computer off at night, or when not in use, then yes, the CMOS battery is the likely culprit.
As mentioned by the others, CMOS batteries do not cause your system to BSOD.
