Well here I was Sunday night saying to myself its about time I really floored this 8K3A. With 2 256 dimms in I had previously topped out at 185FSB at fastest timings but a mere 172 on turbo. So I take out one dimm and crank and bank. I actually mistakenly set it on turbo for 185 but sure enough the thing was stable as can be. 186 and eventually 187. 188 loaded windows but eventually hung. Still 187 is about as good as it gets with pc2100.
So that was one stick how about the other. I put it in and my system starts beeping at me and I smell smoke. Despite all my knowledge and experience I put the stick in backwards. I fried the stick and the mobo.
Monday morning I called mwave and rma'd my dead board back. I had them overnight me a new one and here it is already up and running. I sent the crucial ddr back for exchange as well. However it might take longer since I did a return and re-send with them versus the send it out immediately with mwave.
Moral of the story: even the wise man is a fool sometimes.
I can assure you this will never happen again.
