in the startup screen and BIOS the letters are all scrambled all over the screen


My monitor is LCD TFT 18" Samsung 181t

I tried this card in TWO TOTALLY DIFFERENT COMPUTERS, i mean they have NOTHING in common.

THE VIDEO CARD DOES THE EXACT SAME THING

my new one which i am putting together right now is:

that is all i had installed so far


video card was in the slot all way

tried both DVI and VGA

i dont know what to do any ideas???

Okay,

A couple of things,

1st. wipe off agp connectors, and check interconnect, make sure card is clean

2nd. look at psu, i had a Geforce 2 gts, and it would do the same thing, but after installing bigger psu it worked fine

3rd. i did this with my gts too, but be aware i hear the G4's get quite hot, i unpluged my fan on the card and plugged it into the motherboard

I would return it and get a Leadtek, or MSI or Visiontek, probably in that order. There have been MANY threads here about the out of the box failures with Gainward (early shipments of 4600's had terrible problems), or other issues, and even when they work well, they perform below expectations.
Gainward, of whom I WAS a big supporter made their reputation with some brilliant GeForce 3 cards that both overclocked and performed extremely well. Their whole GeForce 4 line has been, to put it mildly, a disappointment. In virtually every comparison test that I have seen they have finished well behind the cards I mentioned above. So how do they continue to justify loyalty and a premium price?
Ask Sapasion and many other who have had freezing, lockups, and overall poor performance with various models in the GF4 line.
I would strongly recommend that you get something else.

I have sent a RMA request to googlegear.com, luckily it was shipped only 6 days ago so I should get a refund.

This card had vivo, and I tried both adapters and they had the same exact effect, I also tried both of my LCD's VGA and DVI cables, so it is not the cables.

My PSU is only 300 watts but since I did not connect any hard drives, or cd rom drives, or any other cards, anything at all extra I doubt that is the problem

straight of the box it did this so It wasn't hot, tried a bit later exact same.....

This is extremely frusterating, after spending $3000 premium on this system, i have to wait for a new video card, but for now GO TNT2!!!!!!YEAH!!!!!

the total watt rating not what they were talking about being the problem. It could be a problem with the actual rail on the psu nou suppling enough juice. As you upgrage out of the genaric type they start providing more juice to one spot at a time even the total watt rating is 300 watt. The generic may only give you say 50 watts to the wire that gives the power to the agp where sey the 300 watt antec gives the same wire 100 watts (these are just #'s off the top of my head). anyway, good luck on the RMA

Sorry to hear that about your video card. I would demand a better video card from Gainward! (Hey, it always works for Gateway) :D

Well your arguement doesn't convince me, one lemon out of the many many Gainward's I have used isn't bad. They are always the best for the price.

I have to agree. I have worked with about 4 gainward gf4s what worked just fine.

I recently got a epox 8k3a+ with a bad thermal diode...does that mean I won't buy another epox board again? Of course I'll buy another one. They make great boards *just like gainward*
