I currently have a radeon 32 mb ddr card on an athlon xp 1700+ with 256 MB pc2700 ram. I saw an ad in compusa for the radeon 7000 64 mb agp for $50 after rebate. Would this be a worthy upgrade? Or should I save my cash for the radeon 8500LE?

Save up for the 8500. The 7000 is the hobbled version of the classy 64MB Radeon (7000 used SDR, Classic used DDR), but I'm not too sure about the clock speeds.Quote:

But you'll still be much better off with the LE. It's under $100 anyways, and can be bumped up to 8500 speeds if that's your thing.
Ah - much thanks. i'll wait then.
No, that's not an upgrade. The 7000 is actually worse. You should get the radeon 9000 @ newegg.com, or do what Ashpool says and wait to buy the 8500. Your proc is yearning for a worthy vid card, anything less would be uncivilized.:D
Yeah, don't get the Radeon VE. It has something like 2.9GB/sec of memory bandwidth and has half the fillrate of the Radeon 32MB DDR not to mention it has no hardware T&L.
*edit* For Future refernce a Radeon 7000 = Radeon VE
Ah I understand now. Thanks so much guys! I'll save up for the radeon 8500.
Just to clear things up, the 7000(VE) is also DDR but only 64bit wide instead of the 128bit DDR of the radeon32. Effectivly half the memory bandwidth of the radeon32DDR.
Also its slower 250MHz ramdac and lack of a hardware T&L unit make it no prettier or faster than a MX200 which is only 64bit SDR.
If you ask me $30 is too much for this card ;)
