Never actually bought anything from these people, but

They are on the www.gentoo.org site....
A man that gave a presentation at a summer camp I went to last year had a Red Hat equipped laptop. I asked if he installed that himself or it came with the laptop. Apparently it was a dell laptop and they had factory installed Red hat. IIRC there are no options for it on the dell site, but if you call them up it's an option.
It's very possible that they don't do this anymore seeing as microsoft has been tightening the noose around companies necks... but it is something to look into.
Yeah, as I recall Dell bowed to the pressure from Redmond and does not offer anything in Linux anymore, but I haven't looked lately.
the majority of notebook/laptops are made in Taiwan by a handful of OEM manufacturers, including IBM, Dell, and other big namebrands. There are many so called generic brands offer laptops according to your configuration with any OS or no OS at all. One brand I bought for people is Chembook. Generic brands are made by the same manufacturer that supply laptops to the big guys, quality is the same. Get a "laptop buying guide" magazine you will find the contacts for most manufacturers. Chembook is located in Fremont, CA. You may order a notebook with separate HD(not installed, you install yourself). That way Bill Gate cannot sue or threaten the vendor that windows OS is not installed. According to evil MS, all PC should be sold with windows installed because MS is a monopoly. If you sell a PC without paying bill gate the fee for windows, MS can go after you and the court is on their side.
