start overclocking :D
1.8Ghz is just about a guarantee, and lately more and more have been getting to 1.9Ghz
That's the same stepping week and Y I got. If your supporting components are true to you you're a likely candidate for a very high OCQuote:

makes me wish i copied down my stepping info :(
Hold your horses. I just read your sig. You are running an ali chipset with sdram? No, no, no. I don't know much about the chipset, but I'm guessing that you don't have the proper divider to hit the high speeds. And sdram??? That definately won't work. I'm sorry my friend, but I think you only have part one of a 3 part mix to get high speeds. You can sure pop it in and try it, but don't be disappointed if you don't hit the speeds we are getting unless you are able to upgrade that mobo to a kt333, and some higher quality ram.
Rule 1 when building your pc (actually step one) - check all components for structural integrity (make sure it ain't broke)
Step 2- write down model numbers/steppings in case (esp stepping)
step 3 build
You seemed to have missed step 2 there bud but thats ok. ANyway, yeah, i would say that with that chipset and sdram you won't be getting monster ocs yet i would say 1.6 should be pretty easy and higher could be possible (that is if you have good ram). but as the last guy said, if you want massive ocs, you need new mobo/ram/hsf.
I don't recall saying the XP 1600+ was for this system, ;p
You shouldnt make inference's:rolleyes:
Could you share what system it will be for then ;)Quote:

I just assumed it cuz you didn't mention any other hardware you had. Next time you wish opinions on what a chip can do, please include all the necessary info.
I got almost the SAME CHIP prolly off the same sheet of silicon as yours just got it from newegg the other day
here are the specs!

I havent used the chip yet really tried to get it to work in my ABIT KT7E but no luck, so i just bought a EPOX 8K5A2+ and some mushkin pc2700 so HOPEFULLY ill be able to hit 1.9GHZ ill know tommorow or friday when i get the board in so wish me luck guys, ill post up some numbers soon!
:)
Thought it would be common knowledge by now that the KT7 boards can't run XP CPU's, but you are new to the class, so I forgive you (there'll be a quiz next week ;) ).Quote:

Good luck with the new mobo, great choice, great OCer :)
(hope the memory fits the bill :) )
ya i knew it prolly wouldnt work but there were a few reports of peeps getting them to work so i knew it was a chance, so i got the xp1600 anyway cuz its the chip i wanted, currently im running a Duron 750 overclocked to 950 on this kt7e but it really is time to move up
Well I dont actually know what the system will be, I just ordered it for a friend of mine he gave me the money I ordered it. He's going to be building a system soon but I told him he should grab the chips while they are still there.
