In uni we r using TLNET- HELIOUS. now we also use ORACLE. our first task was to create a form in HELIOS (working as an operating system, i was told) than i logged in ORACLE and now i'm learning the commands on how to use it. i wanted to know, if i just install Oracle on windows and have no TELNET- HELIOUS, would dar work out. or do i have to have UNIX (TELNET -HELIOUS)and ORACLE both.
It sounds like your are using Telnet to access a machine named Helios. And then running Oracle on that machine. Am I right so far? If so, installing Oracle on your Windows machine would probably have very little effect since you most like would not be able to access the database that resides on the Unix network. Besides, unless you have student versions there for you too install, the cost would be pretty prohibitive.
If you know you can log into the databse from your PC and you have access to Oracle software for the PC, it might be worth the effort. However, using telnet to connect to a Unix machine will be valuable experience in the long run.
