I inadvertantly deleted the small desktop icon that normally appears on the left side of the taskbar next to START. Does anyone know how to restore it without reloading the OS?

http://cadetlee.techfeasibility.com/misc/sd.scf - rename it to "Show Desktop", put it in your C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch directory. https://www.sharkyforums.com/images/.../2005/06/5.gif

The Show Desktop button will do just that. If you have a bunch of stuff open and you need to get to something on your desktop quickly you can press this button and everything will be minimized for you. Very handy at times.

If your sig is longer than your post then type more.

I always delete that purposely too, you can do it 20x as fast by just holding the Windows key and pressing M....Quote:

sure you could do it quicker going using the windows key, if you only had a 90mhz with 24mb of ram.
Besides that, you will notice that not all program windows will give you the option to downsize at a critical moment, or do, but will not allow the downsize to function until you currently finish a task within that window, not very convenient if you need to access the desktop for something during that time, and the tabing between programs is a bs altertanative. That is why the show desktop icon was introduced along with the quick launch bar.

yeah, I guess you are right about this part, like when you are using 'Find' in Excel, you can't do a Windows+M....
BTW, I enjoy reading your posts, keep up the good work [C]!!!! =)

correct me if i'm worng, but the shortcut keys don't let you restore your desktop whereas re-clicking the icon will. handy.
