Monsoon Planar Media 9's
Diva Swan M-200 beats em all... :)
but does not meet the 2.1 criteria ;)
What is your budget?
I am sure that if you didn't mind buying used that you could get some VERY nice equipment off of www.audiogon.com that would kill any PC 2.1 system on the market for just a few hundred bucks.
I am using a Harmon Kardon AVR100 with some B&W DM302's and a Velodyne CT-80 subwoofer. Its a very modest 2.1 system that would kill any PC 2.1 multimedia system and could probably be gotten used for $300-500. If you have the means, then I would highly recommend getting something like it.
I'd go with the 621's for 2.1 and the value.
Well, I prefer my $200, self-amplified, multimedia Diva Swan M-200's over some B&W DM303's... ;) ;)
gluegun, do you have a good link to those swan speakers? i can't seem to find anything on them that's in english, or anything that has any good info.
Do I have a link? Hehehehe...
The home page. They are on sale for $199, not the $299 it shows:

P.S. You will probably need to upgrade your sound card... that new 24/192 M-Audio sound card will do them justice. :)
Thanks for those links! Might get those for someone as a Christmas present...
You may want to consider some of the less expensive multimedia systems out there. I've owned the diva swans and returned them. With out a sub they just don't perform. Consider an altec lansing 641 set for $50 less. You get 4.1 sound, louder, and much better bass. If its for someone thats planning on games then definately go with the altec lansings. If its for someone that considers themselves an audiophile and likes the audiophile sound then get the swans. But consider this--> Swans = $200 / Altec lansing + audigy or turtle beach = $200. The choice is yours.Quote:

1ctabor used the Swans... well out of their intended use. They *ARE* a niche product, but for what they do, they beat the 641's easily... read the reviews to figure out if they are in a niche for you.
They beat the 641's at what? Is it the audiophile taste. I know far more people that prefer the same sound I do then people that prefer flat sound. If he wants bass he isn't gonna get it from the swans. If he wants volume he isn't gonna get it from the swans. If he wants 4 channels for gaming he isn't gonna get it from the swans. Plus the altecs are one of the cleanest sounding computer speakers i've heard. How did I use them out of my intended use? They are computer speakers right? Doesn't that involve games, mp3's, and some dvd's if you want? They didn't perform thats why I sent them back.Quote:

Listen, the only thing that is ENCODED in 2.0 these days is music, which the M-200's excel at. If he is worrying about space considerations (ie, as a reason not to get 4.1 or 5.1), than he probably shouldn't consider the M-200's, cause they are BIG on a desk! If he wants the best sounding PC music system for $200, than they are it.
