Popped my Z560s !

Hehe well I was watching Terminator last night on DVD ( hooked up my computer to TV ) using of of course, the above mentioned Logitech Z560s. I was fairly happy with them, but never put them up too loud before ( except the bass part ). Well it was pretty darn loud in my room though...as the sub/amp is under my bed, every gunshot felt like it was my own back taking them. But towards the end of the movie, the speakers on my left side ( front left+rear left) popped a few times, and now the left side only goes half as loud as the right side :/
I checked all the settings and I know its not any of the software, must be the speakers themselves...*sigh*
Well they're still serviceable, but i'm wondering, what are RELIABLE 4.1 or 5.1 speakers under $200? ( i.e. I bought the OLD cambridge 4 speaker surround system for $150 about 5 years ago, and they still work without a problem! )

Sorry to hear about your speakers.

I would sent them back to be serviced its way cheaper then buying new ones, all its sounds like is that you your amp for your left sides kicked on you.

They are going to ask you to just ship the sub out, which might kind of expensive. but you have bite the bullet already, you might as well ride it out to the end.

You will probably be asked to cut the power cord from the sub and send it in with the control pod.

I've returned 2 sets and have yet to pay for shipping the sub.

Man that really sucks:(

ive heard lots of lots of problems with broken z540s and next to no problems with al 641's. They sound great, great bass, the only nagging point is they tend to have a slight hissing noise that comes out when ur not playing music, but u cant even hear it unless u put ur ears righ up to the speakers. Got mine for 150$ with shipping.

Yeah, I agree with determan, I have the 641's and love them. I do notice the hissing noise when not playing anything but I get used to and also, these speakers are meant to bring the noise, not the quiet :p Just be forewarned the system is LARGE, the subwoofer is bigger than my mid-tower case. Great for terrifying the neighbors/roommates, not so great if space is a real problem.

Logitech's Z560s are the IBMs of speakers.

Yeah, they're just like the "Deathstar" hard drives. Amazing when they DO work. Heh...and I own both! ;)

It is called clipping and you my friend are the victim. When you start to hear clicks or pops when at a moderate to loud volume, and it is not from the source (ie crappy MP3) then you amp is likely clipping. This melts the voice coil of your speaker, especially tweeters. Just so you know, the midwoofers on the LogiTech's is markete as a tweeter by the manufacturer. That is what happens when you get cheap amps on cheap speakers w/o clip protection, though the only speaker that have this for a computer setup are Klipsch's.

There's many different types of clipping. Speaker farting, excessive pregain, excessive postgain, poor EQing which creates square waves, etc.

"clicking" or "popping" would be the aftermath of a clipped speaker, when they're starting to clip, you can recognize it by it's slang name "speaker fart" which is a pretty obvious sound.

*sigh* those logitechs are so overrated IMO. For that kind of money you could have an ACTUAL stereo system hooked to your computer with plenty of power, and the capability of being loud.

Thanks for the advice folks. For now I decided to use these till around Christmas time, as they are still more or less serviceable...for now. Hopefully I'll find a decent sale on some good speakers around the holidays though=)

I haven't had a problem with my z560s. Half soundcard volume, half bass, that is the key.

Ihavent had a issue at all with the z560 also i dont care if you turn up your overpriced Klipsch's all the way there gonna get F***d up...
