Best Headphones EVAR!!!111

Ok, so i know the logitech z 680 is the best 5.1 speaker set for the money, and that the z560 is the best 4.1 speaker set for the money, but what are the best headphones for the money, i know that planttronics is pretty much referrence quality when it comes to headphones, but exactly which ones? i cant find any good reviews on websites that compare a lot of them. i'm not talking about those trendy little $20 sonys that u see at best buy, i'm talking about the $100+ headphones that you can buy and have them last you twenty years. i need a set, so if any of u know like review sites and/or have personal experience, please let me know. also, if its a cnet link, dont bother posting. i dont trust them at all and find that there are trends in their ratings that go by brand. i wonder how many people at cnet are taking money under the table.... also, paying for price listings, not cool. go froogle. cnet can kiss my *** (if u cant tell i got burned by a bad "good" review they gave and got stuck with mediocre equipment). ok, thats about the end of my rant, so thanks.

Check out headphone reviews at http://www.headphone.com . There's a number of really good models from Grado, Beyerdynamic, and Sennheiser. Which model is best depends on what you're looking for, since some headphones are better than others for certain things (like whether you want open or sealed headphones, or whether or not you'll be using a headphone amp.)

I just got a set of Grado SR60's, and for the price (about $70), they're a kick-@$$ set of cans. Upside: GREAT sound quality for the price, and they do pretty well without a headphone amp. Downside: They're not sealed headphones, so everyone else around you can hear what you're listening to. And if you care more about what your headphones look like than what they sound like, you may not like headphones that look like something a World War II radio operator would be wearing.

hmm, i would prefer closed versus open, but its not THAT importatn. kick *** sound, especially bass and treble is what i'm really interested in. how much do headphone amps run? also, i dont care if it Looks like i have an army radio on my head so long as it doesnt WEIGH like an army radio. thanks a lot.

sennheiser make the best headphones on the planet, accept no substitutes. although for only $100, sony will probably be fine.

Check out the "Cheap Headphones" page on headphone.com for some different options in your price range. The page does a good job of spelling out the pros and cons of the various models they carry.

As for headphone amps... They can get kind of pricy -- around a few hundred bucks -- but there's a thread in the SharkyForums Sound Forum about building your own or buying a pre-assembled low-cost amp. Amps aren't mandatory, but a number of higher-end headphones need something more than a portable player to drive them to their full potential. The headphone.com "Cheap Headphones" page I mentioned above has some info about which headphones perform better than others with or without a headphone amp.

I have the Senn HD280 Pro (closed ear) and the Grado SR-60's. The grado's have a much better bass response. The senns excellent treble.

get a set of HD-600 by sennheiser, you'll love it :D

Sennheiser--the only headphones to buy!

I have a pair of Sony MDR-7506 Headphones that are used by filmmakers and video production professionals. Work fantastic and are sure to last you many years down the road. I bought mine at a DJ shop for about $150, but you can find them online for $100 easily.

I'll have to disagree there. I would have to go with Grado. Senniheiser would be top of the line for high end, But when it comes to low end stuff like gaming, you can't beat Grado. I would personally recommend the SR 60 which run about $60. I love mine and wouldn't trade them for anything Senn makes. There are nothing but reviews prasising this product on the net. I guarantee you will not read 1 bad review, unles the person is uninformed about headphones or just plain stupid.

Grado competes pretty well on the high end, too. Their RS-1 & RS-2 models supposedly compare well with Sennheiser's top of the line HD600.

Back to models I can afford... ;) I'm still breaking in my SR60's. Those things are incredible for the price. I keep popping in CD after CD to see what details I'll notice that I've never been able to hear before.

ok, to skydog and whoever else uses their headphones on a pc, do i newed some special setup? like i have a soundcard with two outputs, so do i need like a reverse y jack and have two 1/8" prongs meet up to one 1/4" jack? excuse me if my name for certain parts is off, i doubt im following official headphone jargon. thanks.

Live Value, is not going to hold up well with a nice set of cans.

you could apply a tap (something that splits the signal up), but...especially in audio, super especially in PC audio a tap will ruin your SQ and line power.

Perhaps you can run a 1/8 extension cable from your front jack to some place near were you are seated, that way you can swap between speakers and headphones without having to crawl around. You could also consider upgrading your soundcard, but thats a much more extreme solution.

I really like my Grado SR60's.

I made a good audio CD with lots of different types of music and went to a really good sound shop where I could try a bunch of different Senn's & Grado's. I actually liked the SR60's better than the SR80's so I got those and saved $30.

Your ears will be the best judge of headphones. If you want to be happy with your purchase don't ask, figure it out for yourself. People just have different tastes when it comes to audio quality.

ok a few questions, #1 what is the difference between sealed and open headphones? i plan on using these with my MP3 player at school, will the noise bother people around me? would they be louder to others than a regular pair of bud earphones? do you guys know of a good online store that sells the SR60's at a good price? the cheapest i can find is $70.
