I can't go any further with purchasing till I decide on which chip to get. I currently have two athlon xp 1800 machines one is in my sig(10x166 and ram is at 166) the other has same amount of ram, kr7a mobo, and a geforce 2(not overclocked). What i'm wondering is which path is going to give me the most noticeable performance increase? Should I go the route of the 3.06 P4 or should I wait to see how the Bartons perform?
Buy an EPoX 8RDA+ mobo with 2 sticks of the fastest 512MB DDR (400 or faster) ram, put them in parallel, and get Barton XP3000+ chip. If the Barton isn't available and you've got an itchy trigger finger, get a cheap Athlon XP1700+ rev. 'B' Thoroughbred chip and wait until the Barton you want is avail.
