5 year warranty is insane
I just want to know the damn price. I know their going to skyrocket the price, but I hope they don't.
I wonder why 36 gigabytes per platter though??
Well, they say it should be 30% cheaper than competing SCSI drives, which means that a single platter 36 GB drive would run for ~$120, and a dual platter 72 GB would be ~$200. A 148 GB drive (4 platters) would run in the ~$550 range.
Dang that thing is awesome! That 5 year warranty is pretty sweet. WD must be loyal in their HD's in reliability to have the good of a warranty. :)
hmmm now to have them drop in price in a little while
how do they compare in performance to the wd 8mb 7200 rpm ones?
Hmmm...I wonder what cache size they'll put on those puppies. I hope 8Mb or more....
damnnnnnn that is sweet.. price will possibly be murder though :(
its an 8 meg cache, and just wait till the competiton gets some ammo to use, then a nice little price war will start. i'd imagine that the hard drives would still be on the high end, but more in the $350-$400 price range, not $550+.
all i can say is it's about damn time! wasnt ibm supposed to release a 10,000rpm ide drive like 2 years ago? i remember one of the selling points of my old fong kai case was it was rated for the "new" ibm 10,000 rpm drives which were supposed to hit the market shortly after.
