Wow, I didn't even know that was a problem. I've never seen that happen in one of my systems nor anyone elses I know for that matter.
Yeah, I find it kind of odd that out of 22,000 something members, not one has had a problem like that. Maybe it's just one particular motherboard brand?Quote:

Ya, i remember they had a problem with the capasitator in the movie "back to the future". So it probably has been happening since 1985. LOL. But really, that could have been the problem with all those bad Epox mobo's. I think it was the 8k5a2's. I have seen lot of mobo's being RMAed here and i'm sure a lot of guys didn't know what was wrong with them. So it could have been that.
Wow...so someone made shisty Caps and its causing problems...who would have thought.
As for having 22,000 members and never hearing about it, that doesnt mean much...just because its not being spoken about doesnt mean that its not happening.
Ouch. I'll be keeping an eye out for bulging caps.
HOLY SHIZZLE BATMAN! I've got the same mobo :(Quote:

Heh, one more problem I can identify now :)
Yeah, it IS weird how no one talked about this on this forum.
But come to think of it, there are millions of computers and the broken capacitors are just a small fraction.
So it might be possible we sahrky people are just really lucky (or smart).
Anyhow, that is bad news
That's really weird. I have never experienced or heard about any of these issues that can happen.

ah yes the imfamous flux capacitor
i wished the story would let you know what brand and value..
ive replaced capacitors on a couple of mobos, but they were associated to the incoming power.. im sure they were signs of a crappy power supply..
its not uncommon for a single component to cripple an industry.. many components are designed and used in somewhat proprietary applications.. the application drives the requirement and the supplier with the least expensive part wins..
we recently went through a 6 month period where a particular manufacturer supplied us a "torroidal" powdered iron core that we use for a variety of inductors(chokes) in our line of power supplies..
the binder material wasnt able to take the compunded heat from the environment.(avg. ambient is 40C and gets to 60C regularly) the cores became oversaturated when the heat dropped their rating then they would go into "thermal runaway"..
we later discovered that audio amplifiers and other high end power supply manufacturers had similar issues.. luckily our volume was limited to less than 500 possibles but im sure others werent so lucky..
the fall out was much worse than the savings(bean counting and engineering doesnt mix).. i sent pics of over 15K$ in product that had returned those that would be concerned.. that plus the replacements, the lost customers, the black mark on an industry etc etc..
